Stop Work Authority
The right, and expectation, that any worker on a jobsite, regardless of position or seniority, can halt work on the spot when they see an imminent safety hazard, without fear of reprisal. Distinct from a [[concept-stop-work-order|Stop Work Order]], which is a formal directive typically issued by an owner, inspector, or safety authority rather than exercised by an individual worker in the moment.
Why it matters
A hazard spotted in real time is only useful if someone actually feels safe stopping the work to address it.
