What is a Construction Technology Manager?

A Construction Technology Manager oversees how a construction company adopts and standardizes technology across every project, not just one: choosing which BIM, project management, and field software the company standardizes on, rolling it out and training staff, and evaluating new tools like drones, reality capture, or AI-driven analytics before the company invests in them. It's distinct from a BIM/VDC Specialist or Drone/UAV Specialist, who execute their specialty on individual projects; a Construction Technology Manager sets company-wide strategy and standards for all of it.

What they do

Evaluate and select construction technology platforms (BIM, project management, field software) for company-wide use
Standardize technology workflows and templates across projects
Train project teams on new software and technology adoption
Pilot emerging technology (drones, reality capture, AI-driven analytics) before company-wide rollout
Manage relationships with software vendors and negotiate licensing
Track technology ROI and identify where new tools would solve a real operational problem

Helpful:: Autodesk Certified Professional credentials and Procore's certification tracks, both already used on individual projects by BIM/VDC Specialists and project teams, are common ways a technology manager demonstrates platform-specific expertise
Not necessary:: A software development background; this role is about construction workflows and adoption, not building the software itself
