Project & Operations Resume Guide

Recruiters in this category screen on specific project numbers and named software, not job titles, so a resume that only says 'managed projects' gets passed over fast.

What recruiters actually look for

A quantified project scope: the dollar value, square footage, or unit count of what you actually ran, not just a job title. Software named directly, Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, since a generic "proficient in project management software" line reads as vague rather than skilled. Delivery method experience (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CM at Risk) if you have it, since the contract structure changes what the job actually involves. Measurable outcomes: on schedule, under budget, change order volume managed, safety record if the role is field-facing.

How to structure it

Lead with your largest or most relevant project and its number right in the bullet, not buried in a paragraph below it. Use an action-outcome structure for every bullet: what you did, and what resulted. List software by name in its own line rather than folding it into prose. One page early career, up to two pages once you have several major projects and a leadership track record worth showing.

What to leave off

"Managed projects" or "oversaw construction activities" with no number attached to either one. Every piece of software you've ever opened once, list what you're actually fluent in. Generic "team player" or "strong communicator" language unless it's immediately followed by a real example. And once you have real project experience, trim unrelated early-career jobs that no longer say anything useful about you.

Bullets worth adapting

  • Managed subcontractor coordination and budget tracking for a $40M multifamily project from foundation through closeout
  • Reduced RFI turnaround time from 9 to 3 days by restructuring the submittal log in Procore
  • Delivered project 6 weeks ahead of schedule under a CM at Risk contract
  • Tracked and resolved 85+ change orders across a $22M renovation with zero schedule impact
